Diogo Jota's wife and parents were moved to tears after seeing Wolves' touching tribute for the Portuguese star at Molineux.

  WHAT HAPPENED?

  Six weeks on from the death of Jota and his brother Andre Silva in a car crash, Wolves continued the classy tributes for the 28-year-old before their Premier League game with Manchester City on Saturday. A giant tifo of Jota was unfurled in the stadium, and a banner was laid out on the pitch that read, "We'll remember you when you walk in fields of gold". In the stands, both Jota's widow, Rute Cardoso, and his parents, Isabel and Joaquim Silva, were brought to tears as a result.

  THE BIGGER PICTURE

  Just like at Anfield when former side Liverpool took on Bournemouth on Friday, Wolves paid homage to their former forward this weekend. In the 18th minute of the contest, Wolves fans also rose to their feet and applauded for 60 seconds in honour of Jota, who wore the No.18 shirt during his time at the club. The Portugal international was a very popular figure, and his death has rocked the footballing world. But the outpouring of love and affection to his nearest and dearest may provide some small crumb of comfort to them in this difficult time.

  Versatile forward Jota initially joined Wolves on loan from FC Porto in 2017 before signing permanently the following year. Before moving to Liverpool in 2020, he scored 44 goals and added 19 assists for the Midlands outfit, along with securing their promotion to the Premier League in 2018 and helping them qualify for Europe on multiple occasions.

  WHAT NEXT?

  Jota tributes are likely to continue, especially from Liverpool, as the season progresses. Incidentally, fellow Portuguese and former Wolves team-mate Ruben Neves, who served as a pallbearer at the funeral, was also in the stands on Saturday.
